BS FALL '08 Game 7 Awards

Player of the Game: Johnner 'goGO' Londono - Masterful pitching. Johnner returned to high form and fashion dealing exciting stuff and keeping his team in the game.

Big Stick of the Game: iz3y Lopez / Ben 'Schwinn' Ricter - Two home runs, and a single, led to iz3y scoring everytime. Ben duplicated the performance hitting the ball with equal vigor for a homer and a double of his own.

Nothing to Fear Award: Kelly 'lil TOUGH' McCann - A hot smash of your shin would probably force u to rethink playing softball. It only made Kelly want to play more. She stayed in the game and collected two hits and a very nice stop at 2b.

Save the Day Award: Laura - thanks for showing up on a rainy cold night to save our ass and hit the ball hard. I hope Alex kidnaps u more often and brings u to our games!

SPEED KILLS!: Ed 'lighting' Lopez / Nick 'wheels' Cummings - These guys slap hit and still get on base no problem. Speed kills people, and every week they show it. They play to their strengths and because of them the lineup has been better.

Best Outfit: Johnner 'Business Casual' Londono - Playing in ur work clothes is not advised and should never be repeated. EVER! Still, there is a certain intimidation at work when a guy will try to do this. I am sure it got into their heads!

BS FALL '08 Game 6 Awards

Play of the Game: Johnner 'Twinkle Toes' Londono - The SLS hitter sent a rocket shot destined for Centerfield but Johnner intervened. Sensing his team needed a pick-me-up he stuck his ankle out and maneuvered the ball to the waiting glove of theKID for the third out of the inning.

Player(s) of the Game: Infield (theKID, Kelly McCann, iz3y!, KG, Johnner, Tracii, theSuit) - playing through a terrible infield, and long droughts of inactivity, the infield played a very nice game. While some improvements still need to be made, this was nice effort!

MAN at WORK award: James 'Radar' Schwertfeger - having to navigate the dim lights is one thing. A team practicing behind u while ur blind to balls coming at you is a whole other story!

U Ain't as fast as me award: Eduardo 'MAC' Lopez - Not sure when he is ever going to lose this award, but damn is this kid fast. So fast, he doesn't even take extra bases because he knows he can get them later. Close second is lilNick, but he wears spikes. Which makes Ed more impressive.

Style Award: Bomb Squad - We all get it for looking so good in the Road Greys, and finally all dressing alike.

BS FALL '08 Game 5 Awards

Player of the Game: Nick 'the Esquire' Cummings - No not because I'm writing the blog. Energy actually picked up when Nick inserted himself at shortstop. He made some bad plays (booted 2 balls; pulled one Bill Buckner) but he also made some great ones (ranging over behind KG at 3rd to stop a rocket shot from becoming a double or triple; ranging to short center for a pop fly) and he drove in the BS Crew's first run, even if it didn't officially count. His RBI single sparked a rally that was too little too late as the Crew scored 6 runs in the top of the 4th.

Hit of the game: Ryan Lubbers - On a 2 strike pitch in the midst of a rally, Lubs hit a nubber down the third base line that spun toward fair territory and simply died in front of the 3rd baseman and pitcher. Hustling instead of giving up, Lubs made it to first with no throw.

Play of the game: Ed-to-Kelly-to-Johnner Relay - not quite as sweet as last weeks version, but this was was extra spicy as Johnner was able to determine the bra and panty size of the young lady attempting to cross home plate. In an attempt to a) keep himself upright and b) not knock over the frail young lady Johnner wrapped this vixen in his arms starting from her "waist" and working his way up. He then proceeded to "tag that ass" for good measure to make sure she was out. Also note that this could have been Ed to Lubs to Johnner but I'm not 100% sure but I'm pretty sure it was McCann.

Style Award: Kelly "next top model" McCann - Taking it to a new level this week with the hair color as well as a little bounce, body and shine to the hair. I don't even remember if it went into a pony tail at all.

BS FALL '08 Game 4 Awards

Player(s) of the Game: Kathy 'KG' Gennuso/ Tracii 'She-Ra' Beatty - Teamed up to form a great pitching battery and keep the BS crew in the game while they sorted out their fielding issues.  KG absolutely crushed the ball and tossed a great game.  She also had two put outs and I am sure inbetween innings baked a cake.  Tracii would not be outdone, psyching out hitters, taking walks for the team, and making a very big out for the team to kill any hopes of a rally by the 12 inchers.  Tracii capped off her night with a screaming shot between third and shortstop to pick up her first runs batted in.

PLAY OF THE GAME: James-to-Bassy-to-KG RELAY -  Tracii's catch of a foul ball killed a rally, but this relay ripped hearts out.  Following a smash to leftfield that seemed to give the 12 inchers another big 2 run homer, james fired the ball to Bassy, and upon instruction of theKID, Bassy turned and fired a strike to the outstretched glove of KG who tagged the runner out at home and killed the 12 inchers spirits.

SPEED KILLS AWARD: Sarah 'Sasha' Schabowski - I know you were thinking Nick or Ed, guys who can hit it to the pitcher and make first easy.  Oh no, I am going with Sarah who got two infield hits and wisely made second each time on bad throws.

'DYN-O-MITE!' Award: Shadez/Bassy/Ben - Shadez and Bassy combined for two bombs and Ben added another powering the team to big victory.  Ben has been plagued this season with the heavy heart as his Favre now wears a Jets uniform.  This pain has fueled his desire to kill a ball.

Windmill Technique Award:  Shadez/Nick: Completely different styles of coaching. Shadez likes to whisper instructions that no one can hear.  Nick goes with College football sideline hand signals no one can understand.  Both effective and lead to runs.  Who needs convention?

Style Award: Kelly 'Stylez' McCann - Forget best outfit, Kelly took it another level and had her hair done for the GAME!  Top that Ben.

FOR THE FANS award: Alex 'the professor' Mendoza - Followed theKid's tradition of bringing a fan to the game and gave her something to cheer for by hitting the ball hard and explaining to the fan how he could have hit it harder if he wanted to!!!

BS FALL '08 Game 1 & 2 Awards

brought to you by, DJ Lithaly Entertainment

Player of the Game 1: iz3y lopez – no shoulder dislocation, and hit like a beast, despite throwing two balls onto Washington.

Player of the Game 2: James ‘Ricochet’ Schwertfegger – in a game where we didn’t score a lot, he still hit well. James benefits from the aerodynamic hair and full body warm up suit. I would not try doing this, just admire its hurricane resistant nature.

Defensive play of the Game: KG – Stop a ball with your toe? No problem. Stab a hot shot to third…no issue. Just for sacrificing the body, we give her this award.

Newcomer of the GAMES: Nicholas ‘Hurdles’ Cummings – Speed, and flashed of power…gotta love the game.

Ballerina Award: iz3y ‘twinkle toes’ Lopez – Wow…how bad is it when u bend over to pick up a grounder, turn and fall on your ass. I was not diving, per team rules. I wasn’t trying to do anything spectacular but make a play and I end up on my ass then throw a curve ball to first. Am I embarrassed? You bet ur ass I am…because I swore that those dance lessons I took at the Johnner School of Chair Dancing were going to help me.

New Guy II – Ryan Lubbers: have to give him an award for the name and the fact he showed flashes of line drive power…almost loses award for drinking at the game and not bringing enough for team (which u shouldn’t because we have an official bar and no one wants a ticket for drinking on the field).

BS Summer '08 Game 6 Awards

Player of the Game: Sarah 'BoomBoom' Schabowski - Tremendous play in RightField, when she speared a would be homerun and quieted an asshole umpire for 10 seconds.  Also showed outstanding game and plate awareness by getting on base and breaking up the offensive drought that the BombSquad was mired in.  Sarah was the first player in BS history to have to run through a forrest to get to a ball, but luckily no foliage or Sarah were hurt.

Play of the Game: Kathy 'Heels' Gennuso - Already up 28 runs the GEH team was still trying to up their pinball score, only to be temporarily thwarted by KG.  The biggest DR. Seussian bastard stepped to the plate and hit a searing shot to Short which KG played on the short hop and got the out.

Catch of the Game: Chris 'HANDS' Hancock - Gloves?  Who needs Gloves?  Chris, and please know I am not making this up, made a fantastic catch for an out at first only using his forearms...YEAH...FOREARMS!!!

Swing Away Award: Richard 'theCLOWN PRINCE OF SOFTBALL' Wojcik - Upset someone was performing circus tricks in his house, theKID hit a blast to left that was caught.  The hit was one handed and every bit as impressive, but he was not done.  He still managed a hit later still using his only working arm, which if anyone knows was is not the one a righthanded batter generates power from.  theKid went on later to juggle knives, softballs, and kerosene in an effort to restore order and if possible hit the ump with something.

Swing Away Award II: Johnner 'theColombian Dandy' Londono - Nice hit to start our rally and excellent 'game speed' to score on a shallow hit.  Johnner manned left field for the first time and got a great work out tracking down balls hit to Bucktown.  Johnner has talked to his agent and now wants starting leftfielder money.

I am so Happy Award: Eduardo 'speedy' Lopez - Ed hit yet another slap single to an infielder which he turned into a double by running to second when the ball trickled two feet from the FirstBasemen.  Ed continues to show off the speed that made the BS crew draft him out of the Russian kickball league he was starring in, after his turn as a Pakistani Cricket player did not work out.

"I have a GUN, and I am not afraid to use it" Award: Ben 'Small country' Ricter - Almost, if not did, break Chris Hancock's thumb on a play to third.  It was so scary the GEH crew decided not to crack any more jokes just in case he decided to turn it on them.  The Ump was not so aware, but there is always next game.

BS Summer '08 Game 5 Awards

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Luis 'The Continental' Ugaz - that ball he hit...'she-DONE!' Luis took at least 3 hours of batting practice before the game, lifted weights, and had at least 2 1/2 beers (1 1/2 more than has his average). Luis also played a stellar First base before opting to move over to 2b/RF/RCF area which no one has ever played before. The thinking was good, but man did it look weird. Luis also invented a pill that cures male pattern baldness and erectile dysfunction in one shot, but forgot it five minutes later. (for those of u who don't know, luis comes from a genius family, but has to have the worst memory of any human being. I swear to you he will read this paragraph 5 times, because it is so long, he will forget it right......HERE!)

PLAY OF THE GAME: Johnner 'TheColombian Dandy' Londonno - Facing a 1st and 2nd, 2 out situation, Johnner fielded a softly hit ball headed between 3rd and shorts stop, and despite being 3 feet from third and facing the easy out, he wheeled around, summoned all his strength, and fired the ball to first. Waiting for him was Luis Ugaz who did a full split as he stretched for the ball. Luis spoke in a higher octave the rest of the game!

Fundamental PLAY OF THE GAME - Richard 'theKID' Wojck - featuring Alex 'theProfessor' Mendoza - For the classic example of why you should yell I GOT IT, when u have a play on the ball. The WS team hit a skyrocketing pop fly to shallow leftfield and alex came strolling in at the same time, theKID came barreling through, thanks to this streamlined buff that reduces wind resistance. Alex still no where near the ball, but eyes trained, was leveled as theKID first caught it, then lowered his shoulder into Alex's fourth and fifth rib. Luckiy, all the TaeBo Alex does prevented a serious injury. It seemed excessive when theKID spiked the ball at his feet.

Oddest play that needs Video: Luis 'theContinental' Ugaz / ED 'theGoldenBirthdayBoy' Lopez - Luis played Rf field, Ed played on another diamond. I mean Ed was our Rightfielder and the other diamond's 3b. Luis on the other hand played RF and 1b...and the ball still got over their heads!

At Bat of the Game: Ben 'Country Boy' Ricter - he used a pink bat...yeah...that pretty much says it all!

Ozzie Guillen Moment of the Game: iz3y 'lil ozzie' Lopez - In an attempt to remove Steve from the game after his calf injury, Iz3y attempted to call timeout. So when he asked the ump, the ump turned and in a disgusted manner, "When my back is turned it is obviously a timeout...geez." So iz3y replied, "He is hurt jagoff, i am just trying to get him out of the game!"

BS Summer '08 Game 4 Awards

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Richard 'theKid' Wojcik - Started the game with fireworks as he lifted a ball deep into left field for a home run. TheKid also shook off an early defensive miscue, to gun down a runner, make a few game defining catches and put 6 bags in the hole to rip Johnner's will to live from his chest. Also, it has been rumored, that GQ would like to put theKID on the their cover for next month. They have said that he has single handily redefined men's fashion with the 'Survivor Buff' and it is becoming a national craze. So who better than him to grace their cover.

Best non-Play of the GAME: Ed 'theSamurai' Lopez and Kathy 'Ghetto Child' Gennuso - these two teamed up for the most flamboyant non-play of the year. A screeching ground ball was sliced between them with no possiblity of being picked up by mortal hands and what should have been a simple base hit turned into a comedy. Both looked into the dugout and acted out the false dive that cost their Manager/Short Stop his season. "There is NO WAY I AM DIVING!" - ED!

The Hearing impaired Award - Stephen 'Andy from the Office ' Przybysz - first off I try saying his last name...serious...try. Secondly, it took me calling him sweety and baby for him to hear me and move back so that the ball wouldn't end up 300 feet behind him. Am i comfortable with calling another man baby, honey, and/or sweetheart...NO. But I LOVE THIS GAME!

Ozzie Guillen Moment of the game: Iz3y 'lil Ozzie' Lopez - Standing up for his players, Iz3y had a minor confrontation with the ump who insisted, even though we were losing bad, that we should not cover first base on a routine play to first because he could potentially block the runner from going to second. It was an infield grounder, the runner has their own bag, and we are the FUCKING BOMB SQUAD and if we want to stand on the bags and do yoga, we will do just that. quick note...i won't be spelling my name izzie anytime soon, but i might start talking with a thick spanish accent.

TEAM BUILDING AWARD: Alex 'theProfessor' Mendoza/Stephen 'ANDY from the Office' Przybysz - For leading the charge back to Union Park Bar after the game. That is team building people...that is team building. Honorable mention to Kathy for bringing the bags set, driving to the game and driving Luis and iz3y home despite being in the complete direction of where u live. U didn't win because...well there was no alcohol involved...better luck next time!

Bags Champs of the Pregame: Richard 'theKid' Wojcik & Ed 'theSamurai' Lopez - an impressive 6-0 record highlighted by 6 "BAGGO" tosses in a row by Ricky that completely castrated the Johnner. On the way, they picked up fabulous prizes that included a free lunch to Flat Top grill courtesy of the Sudaca brothers, Johnner and Luis. The only serious challenge came from the KG/iz3y combo, but ultimately, ED swooped in and saved theKID from the lashings he was receiving. The rematch is scheduled for Tuesday 6/24.

BS Summer '08 Game 3 Awards

Player of the GAME: Luis 'theCONTINENTAL' Ugaz - i heard you made a great catch and showed extremem hustle out in the field.  Luis has steadily gained the confidence and swagger to wear a thong on the field and should be commended, and lauded, for this feat.

Play of the GAME: Iz3y Lopez - not for the dive because that was just plain ass stupid, but for picking himself up and still trying to run the team sans an arm!

Best Story award: Nicholas 'theSUIT' Cummings - very entertaining and informative player notes and stories yesterday.  Yes people he is a frustrated ESPN wannabe sports writer and future lawyer.  That is how we roll on this team...we are versatile!

Best No show of the YEAR : Richard 'theKID' Wojcik - wow...what a game to miss.

Coolest Glove award: Malisse 'lilMALA' Haarl - bringing a small glove to the game means she wants to be real close to the action...REAL CLOSE!  Bring that to the end of the year awards as we will be using it for an oven mitt.  Seriously though, a slightly bigger one would prolly be helpful, if u need help let us know and we can recommend one.

BS Summer '08 Game 2 Awards

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Benjamin 'BEN-BEN' Ricter - Saved our ass from forfeit despite being called 40 min before game time and needing a ride from Lincoln Park. Played an very impressive first base and showed off the wheels that made him a DePaul and Wisconsin legend.

BIG STICK of the GAME: iz3y! - Double, Double, Double, Double....using Sarah's 'wondergirl' bat iz3y! enjoyed a his greatest game offensively. In the field, he played Shortstop and Second base, and even almost killed his brother at third with a throw.

Monk AWARD: Amy Hancock - Absolutely stunning patience at the plate drawing countless walks that would later score. Also, provided guidance for Johnner as they teamed up to provide a great pitching performance.

Play of the GAME: Ed 'theSPACEMAN' Lopez - stabbed a hot scorcher to third, then cooly flipped the ball to second for an important rally killing out. Also, reached base and scored using his wheels. His Mongolian Pillow Fighting misses him badly, but we are ecstatic he chose to play with us.

Professional Players of the GAME: Sarah 'SASHA' Schabowski & Johnner 'theCALENO' Londono - Sarah continues to be a true professional at the plate hitting the ball hard and talking that timely walk. Also, handled a very difficult RF which was barely visible due to the poor lighting. Next game, she might need a flashlight to navigate the situation. Johnner brought his usual professionalism to the game. He was all over the field covering bases as necessary and pitching another outstanding game. He also almost pulled off another swinging bunt, and showed great patience at the plate.

GUTTY PERFORMANCEAWARD!: Richard 'theKID' Wojcik - what can u say about a guy who plays with balls with one hand....oh wait....
Seriously, what a gutty performance. The team thought that ball hit his head, which we were comfortable with, since he had the Survivor buff to protect him, but tragically it was his throwing hand. Where most people would have left the game or seeked medical attention, theKID dug in and drove the ball a mile, and played steller defense. Unfortunately, tales of his strength reached other teams in the league and the outfielders were playing so far away they disappeared from view. Still, it inspired the rest of us to go out and battle. GUTTY!

Gamer of the Game Award: Kathy 'KG' Gennuso - She hit a rocket to left, then never slowed down as she zeroed in on second base. An outstanding throw from the LeftFielder would have gunned her down if not for an perfectly executed slide that tore up her leg. Later it would be revealed that she had no intention of ever sliding all year, but after seeing theKID gut out the game, she had no choice but to follow suit and give up some skin for the greater good.

BS Summer '08 Game 1 Awards

Player of the game: John 'theKEG' London: did he hit well?... no. Field well?...not really. Did he pitch well? You damn right he did. Staring down batters and displaying filthy underhand 5 mph fastballs he pitched a fine game. Do you get a player of the game award for that...HELL NO! You get it for executing a bunt, while swinging as hard u possibly can and for re-introducing the long forgotten Babe Ruth running style!

BOMB SQUAD POWER PLAYER(s): iz3y!, KG, theKID, Alex: the top four in the order produced enough juice to power the city for the next week. 5 homeruns (iz3y-2, thekid-2, alex-1) multiple doubles, a triple and countless hard hit balls proved too much offense to overcome. Highlights included two ridiculously deep drives by theKID, KG consistently abusing the LF, and Alex hitting so well his mentor in Atlanta smiled!

Silent Assassins: Sarah, Malisse: Shaking off rough spring trainings they showed up determined to make their mark on the game. The did just that with some well hit balls and aggressive running. Sarah breaking up a double play and forever intimidating the other teams second baseman. Malisse displayed grit and determination that made her famous in colombia as a child prodigy before being whisked away and raised by shaolin monks.

Good VIBES award: Amy Hancock: I have never experienced the level of enthusiasm or energy that Amy brought to the field. Playing wherever needed, her energy was infectious. Thanks for manning the hot corner!

Most improved players: Ed 'theFENCER' Lopez, Luis 'theCONTINENTAL' Ugaz: These two never even picked up a ball before yesterday. Ed has dedicated his life to obscure sports like Brazilian Cave Diving, Barefoot Jenga, Naked Dodgeball, Fencing, etc....but yesterday he still displayed the speed and JAGER BOMBING that made him an Austrian Concrete Ball Making Champion! Luis on the other hand comes from a long line of football playing physicists. Giving up his dream to play in the physics world cup to play with us was hard, but he did it. Showing Jaguar-esque speed and agility, Luis dazzled the crowd and won over many underage female supporters.

New Nickname: Malisse 'lil MALA' Haarl. Does it sound like a gangbanger name...well yeah. But when u have luis and malisse hitting back to back it gets confusing. Besides yelling LUUUUUUU....almost sounds like the precusor to LOOOOSSSERRR!!! or BOOOOOOO----URNS!!! or as tricia calls him LOUISE! so lil MALA...welcome to the squad.
