BS FALL '08 Game 1 & 2 Coach

I know what you guys are expecting…this long winded lecture but you’re not going to get it from me. I was very happy with our energy and team concept. I have nothing but love for people who support their teammates and are into the game. Now, I will not condone the other shit though because it is unprofessional and shows no respect for our team or the other teams. I have talked to the captains on the team and this will not happen again. Cheer on your teammates, make fun of your teammates, and hell flirt with the other team, but be smart. Don’t chatter when you’re supposed to be hitting or fielding, and absolutely NO MORE magnificently stupid comments. Respect the game.

BS SUMMER '08 THE RECAP

Yes ladies and gentlemen, I am back and almost better than ever. I know it has been quiet from this end for a couple of weeks, but I have been busy getting my record Label off the ground.

So unlike normal recaps I am not going to only have a Sports Section-esque recap, as a matter of fact I am starting this thing off with this lame-o message and now owner Kathy G has poked me with a stick so here goes our recap, Awards, quotes, and finally…coach’s comments…well…LETS DO THE DAMN THING!!!

Despite a hot start, the BOMB Squad limped through the season ending it with a 180 turn from how they started. The season commenced with a 31-6 drubbing of the Free Marketeers and the team riding a wave of positive vibes, partially fueled by beer. Things reached their zenith when the BS crew defeated Phil & Lou’s 14-11 playing with only 8 players under dim lights and more beer. Things would soon go south after a 2 week wait when the team saw their Team player/manager iz3y go down with a freak injury. Freak because his arm seemed to not fit right with the rest of his body. It was later diagnosed he had a simple case of being a ‘dumb ass’ for diving for a ball in a rec softball league! Injuries would later claim, Stephen ‘andy from the office’ Pzrybysz, and partially the Clown Prince of Math, Richard ‘the clown prince of math’ Wojcik.

Through the course of the year we saw the team really come together from pre-warmup drinking sessions, to pre-game warmup Bags/drinking sessions, which caused the league to issue a NO DRINKING Memorandum. We saw Johnner dance on the mound, and ‘Babe Ruth’ trot the bases. We learned new lingo like ‘heels’ (for people who swing at pitches over their head and necessitating heels to hit it) to ‘outtie 3000’, which really should have never been used under any circumstance. The team laughed, cried (sorry, Stephen I had to let people know), and even get yelled at (yeah I did it…and yeah I did take coaches training from Lou and Ozzie). Above all, the team gelled, and came together to the point that we cheered every hit, and picked each other up in the field.

The last game, against Phil & Lou’s, was a rough affair where the offense could not get on track again. Whether it was the lights, or the time, or the the fact people had $2 tequila shots in them, it just seemed like something always came up. Not much will be remembered from this game except the Kid’s buff collection and Johnner almost getting killed by three line drives he still hasn’t realized were being hit to him.

Johnner did manage to gun someone at third turning the impossible into the possible. Kg almost one upped him ranging deep into foul territory to snag a fly ball.

What should be taken away from the game is how far everyone came from where they started and how much work there is still to go. Also, and more importantly, how much fun we had playing this silly game.

BS Summer '08 Game 6 Recap

Another rough outing highlighted the 7:30 game at Union Park, as Green Eggs and Ham put on a fireworks show against the Bomb Squad.  The loss was pinned on recent signee, Karen of the RainMakers, as she filled in for the "Colombian Dandy" Johnner Londono.  Green Eggs and Ham opened with a 6 run 1st inning, in what could have been more, thwarted only by the solid defense of the Bomb Squad.  This was not to last as they began a much expected onslaught.  The Bomb Squad had fun on the field, keeping their spirits up as they sprinted for 400 foot homers, and watched GEH perfrom circus tricks.  The best of which was a one handed line drive that went for a Home Run.  TheKID, a real clown himself, attempted the same feat as he hit a rocket into leftfield, that was narrowly snagged.  The difference, of course, was theKID was playing with one arm for most of the game, sustaining an unknown arm injury.  There has been speculation that it was suffered in a juggling accident, but there are no confirmed reports or witnesses.

The offense still suffered through a drought as the team could not get on track.  Johnner and Sarah did show trememndous patience and competiveness by still trying to get a rally going despite being down huge.  It was Amy's tremendous at-bat that proved the spark to the team as they rallied for 3 runs in the final inning closing the final gap 33-3.

A visibly upset manager, Izzy Lopez, only had this to say, "We just have to keep competing and worry about our team.  I thought I saw a few people's mind wander, but I have to say i was more than impressed with the gutty efforts of theKID and Chris Hancock, who now has a kitchen mitt-esque thumb on his hand.  We are a good team and I expect us to have a good final game.  I think there is too much pride in that clubhouse to let this stand."

Iz3y then engaged in some martial arts with his brother, starting second baseman, Ed Lopez, ultimately coming out the winner by distracting him with a joke!

BS Summer '08 Game 6 Awards

Player of the Game: Sarah 'BoomBoom' Schabowski - Tremendous play in RightField, when she speared a would be homerun and quieted an asshole umpire for 10 seconds.  Also showed outstanding game and plate awareness by getting on base and breaking up the offensive drought that the BombSquad was mired in.  Sarah was the first player in BS history to have to run through a forrest to get to a ball, but luckily no foliage or Sarah were hurt.

Play of the Game: Kathy 'Heels' Gennuso - Already up 28 runs the GEH team was still trying to up their pinball score, only to be temporarily thwarted by KG.  The biggest DR. Seussian bastard stepped to the plate and hit a searing shot to Short which KG played on the short hop and got the out.

Catch of the Game: Chris 'HANDS' Hancock - Gloves?  Who needs Gloves?  Chris, and please know I am not making this up, made a fantastic catch for an out at first only using his forearms...YEAH...FOREARMS!!!

Swing Away Award: Richard 'theCLOWN PRINCE OF SOFTBALL' Wojcik - Upset someone was performing circus tricks in his house, theKID hit a blast to left that was caught.  The hit was one handed and every bit as impressive, but he was not done.  He still managed a hit later still using his only working arm, which if anyone knows was is not the one a righthanded batter generates power from.  theKid went on later to juggle knives, softballs, and kerosene in an effort to restore order and if possible hit the ump with something.

Swing Away Award II: Johnner 'theColombian Dandy' Londono - Nice hit to start our rally and excellent 'game speed' to score on a shallow hit.  Johnner manned left field for the first time and got a great work out tracking down balls hit to Bucktown.  Johnner has talked to his agent and now wants starting leftfielder money.

I am so Happy Award: Eduardo 'speedy' Lopez - Ed hit yet another slap single to an infielder which he turned into a double by running to second when the ball trickled two feet from the FirstBasemen.  Ed continues to show off the speed that made the BS crew draft him out of the Russian kickball league he was starring in, after his turn as a Pakistani Cricket player did not work out.

"I have a GUN, and I am not afraid to use it" Award: Ben 'Small country' Ricter - Almost, if not did, break Chris Hancock's thumb on a play to third.  It was so scary the GEH crew decided not to crack any more jokes just in case he decided to turn it on them.  The Ump was not so aware, but there is always next game.

BS Summer '08 Game 6 Quotes

'I didn't park, Ben did, like he always does' - ED, now someone ask him for a ride...i dare u!
'Who's this taking my spot...Who are you!' - Johnner to Karen our pitcher with a very high ERA now

BS summer '08 Game 5 Recap

Here we go...step right up to the Bomb SQUAD bandwagon...seats are filling up fast!  Yes, ladies and gentleman the Bomb Squad is a huge hit with the fans and with other teams.  Despite being in the midst of a 3 game losing streak the Bomd Squad continues to be a major box office draw and league favorite.  Attendance was an all time high as the Bomb Squad fell to the WS crew 16-6.  The BS crew did keep it close for most of the game drawing the game to a 1 run deficit, but again the offense stalled as WS went on a late inning tear.  HIghlighted by a massive 400 foot homer and a couple of line drive opposite field shots Wyld wrested control and never gave it back.  Shockingly though, the Bomb Squad was undaunted and so were their fans as they drew the largest crowd of the season before, during, and after the game.

"It is really nice to see people come out and support me in my time of need and absence....oh wait, they are here for the team.  But Johnner sux...come on..serious?  Wow...ok..well whatever...ungrateful bastards!" - Random bum off the street.

TheKID did provide some muscle slugging an opposite field shot and a pulling one into leftfield.  He has stepped up his game in memory of the loss of his clown Sensei, Master BO BO SHUCKY PANTS, a world renowned juggler, ballon animal maker, and deadliest balloon swordsmen in the world.  When approached after the game, his representative Richard, had this to offer.  "At this time, my other personalities would appreciate it if the public would respect our privacy, and our need to heal.  It has been very difficult, but there is no truth to the rumor that we went on some Malibu fueled rage streak down LaGrange Ave.  Thank You."

Outside of that it was a great outing and since people (AA) think my recaps are too long, let me make some quick notes.
- Luis played an outstanding game at first, and then later somewhere near Lake and Damen...unfortunately we play on Ashland and Randolph...look that up on a map to see how deep and over he was playing.
- We lost Steve to an injury, something Doctors are calling, a freak 'u should stretch before games' pull of the calf muscle.
- Alyson Andrews came to a game.  She was the Bomb Squad's starting pitcher until a freak 'lame ass excuse' injury prevented her from playing.  Her support did help the team excel early in the game!
- Malisse Haarl left before the game.  Coincidentally, SUPER CHICK showed up at an accident site three blocks from the field (coincidence?) and saved cat from the third rail of the Green Line.    The cat was later sent to the Animal Cruelty Society which received a huge donation of $20 dollars from SUA earlier in the day.
- I yelled for about 97% of the plays the first 4 innings...and toned it down to 22%...that means u guys are learning the game.  It was awesome to see people moving into proper positioning without help from the bench.

BS Summer '08 Game 5 Awards

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Luis 'The Continental' Ugaz - that ball he hit...'she-DONE!' Luis took at least 3 hours of batting practice before the game, lifted weights, and had at least 2 1/2 beers (1 1/2 more than has his average). Luis also played a stellar First base before opting to move over to 2b/RF/RCF area which no one has ever played before. The thinking was good, but man did it look weird. Luis also invented a pill that cures male pattern baldness and erectile dysfunction in one shot, but forgot it five minutes later. (for those of u who don't know, luis comes from a genius family, but has to have the worst memory of any human being. I swear to you he will read this paragraph 5 times, because it is so long, he will forget it right......HERE!)

PLAY OF THE GAME: Johnner 'TheColombian Dandy' Londonno - Facing a 1st and 2nd, 2 out situation, Johnner fielded a softly hit ball headed between 3rd and shorts stop, and despite being 3 feet from third and facing the easy out, he wheeled around, summoned all his strength, and fired the ball to first. Waiting for him was Luis Ugaz who did a full split as he stretched for the ball. Luis spoke in a higher octave the rest of the game!

Fundamental PLAY OF THE GAME - Richard 'theKID' Wojck - featuring Alex 'theProfessor' Mendoza - For the classic example of why you should yell I GOT IT, when u have a play on the ball. The WS team hit a skyrocketing pop fly to shallow leftfield and alex came strolling in at the same time, theKID came barreling through, thanks to this streamlined buff that reduces wind resistance. Alex still no where near the ball, but eyes trained, was leveled as theKID first caught it, then lowered his shoulder into Alex's fourth and fifth rib. Luckiy, all the TaeBo Alex does prevented a serious injury. It seemed excessive when theKID spiked the ball at his feet.

Oddest play that needs Video: Luis 'theContinental' Ugaz / ED 'theGoldenBirthdayBoy' Lopez - Luis played Rf field, Ed played on another diamond. I mean Ed was our Rightfielder and the other diamond's 3b. Luis on the other hand played RF and 1b...and the ball still got over their heads!

At Bat of the Game: Ben 'Country Boy' Ricter - he used a pink bat...yeah...that pretty much says it all!

Ozzie Guillen Moment of the Game: iz3y 'lil ozzie' Lopez - In an attempt to remove Steve from the game after his calf injury, Iz3y attempted to call timeout. So when he asked the ump, the ump turned and in a disgusted manner, "When my back is turned it is obviously a timeout...geez." So iz3y replied, "He is hurt jagoff, i am just trying to get him out of the game!"
